Stumbled upon http://uservoice.com today. Great idea. As a client you get a page with posts which contain ideas on how to improve your web-site or any other product which are sorted by votes. Each new user gets 7 votes which he/she can use to bump existing ideas and can replenish his/her votes by adding ideas of their own which other people vote for. Great idea generator. You can also show off to the community what ideas you are currently working on and which ones you have already implemented. Really worth taking this web-site into account when pondering how your product can be improved.
No, I don't need psychiatric treatment, thank you very much. This is a fragment of a song by La Roux - I am not your toy (duh). La Roux, despite her controversial dress style is an amazing singer. I listened to a few of her songs live on YouTube and I was surprised, her voice is very good for someone who is a Pop Electronica singer and whose songs are actually less popular than the remixes.
Recession is lots of people losing money and jobs. Recession is also opportunity. Businesses go bust, clients who were taken a day ago are now free for grabs and those who are still with someone else suddenly on the move for better deals. Goldmann Sachs is a company which is a prime example of a business doing well in recession. While Citigroup are struggling to stay afloat, GS break records and pay out $16,700,000,000 in bonuses to employees. That's about $430,000 per employee, ladies and gentlemen.
I didn't update the site for a while and look at what happened! Even a site like mine with less than 10 visitors per month gets spammed by robots! Oh, well. I got rid of comments/registration functions since no-one is using them anyway. :) More interesting updates might follow.
EDIT: I just noticed some people actually registered! Well, sorry guys... I don't think you are losing much :) I hope, atleast some of you were human!
Interesting article was published by Google Chrome devs.
It describes how they work around the problem of binary file patching and their new system Courgette which allowed them to reduce patch size by 10 times from their previous system that outsourced this procedure completely to BSDiff.
Continued fractions cought my eye during Quantum Computation lectures where they have been introduced to prove the famous Shor's Algorithm, which for a number N, log N digits long, is able to output a factor 1 < K < N (or K = N if N is prime) in O(n^3) time. Yep, Shor's Algorithm is the one that made all bank security people suddenly go mad and extremely interested in Quantum Computing research.
Oh, good old japanese animation. Some love it, some adore it, some hate it and some don't care. Japanese cartoons sometimes have interesting moralities. They often highlight things that are often dropped by the European and American producers. This time I stumbled across a show called Legends of Galactic Heroes. It is a very old show that started airing in 1988. Nevertheless it is definitely worth watching.
Interesting poll was on University of Bristol portal today.
What is your view on Twitter? The results so far are:
The poll isn't over until 30th of June so number of votes is still unavailable. On average we get about 1500+ votes per poll.
To be honest, I was very surprised with the results... Are you?
Everybody knows number of polygons and a shader language version support isn't the key to the beauty of what you see on the screen. But the desired effect is harder to achieve than you think. Blizzard - a company with a very strong art department can be used as an example in this case. Their behemoth of a title, World of Warcraft, is far from being technologically advanced in terms of graphics engine capabilities. Although, it is being constantly updated and new features are being added continuously it still lags behind titles such as Far Cry 2, GTA 4, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and Crysis.
